Hair loss in females is starting to become frequent enough that it’s now being labeled “female pattern hair loss”. This is a reasonably all-encompassing expression since there are numerous causes that a woman can shed hair. Male hair thinning has been explained for years, having its foundation in the habits of a set of hormones named androgens. The androgens are testosterone, androsteinedione, and dihydrotestosterone and are also located in the woman’s body in smaller amounts that in men. There are lots of things that can make a woman shed her hair.

Androgenetic Alopecia.

This is the exact same issue that causes male pattern baldness. In females, the hair getting thinner is spread all over the scalp, while in men there is typically a more specific thinning in one spot of the scalp. Androgenetic alopecia occurs when testosterone is exposed to certain enzymes in hair cells and it’s changed into one of the other androgens, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). If too much of this DHT builds, the hair follicles shrink and the growth cycle of the hair is changed. In females, lots of of the follicles actually die and others become not able to produce new hair.

Traction Alopecia

This kind of thinning hair in women can be triggered by hairstyles like braids and ponytails that pull the hair too tightly throughout the scalp. This traumatizes the hair follicles enough to hamper hair growth. This problem can be remedied by changing the hairstyle to something less restricting.

Telogen Effluvium.

The hair has three stages in what is known as the growth cycle: the growth phase, the resting phase, and the shedding phase. Following the resting phase, the body loses some hair so that new hair growth can occur. Telogen effluvium is a situation that happens when the body has suffered something so physically distressing like giving birth, malnutrition, or a bad infection that most of the hair temporarily goes into the shedding phase. This can last several months to several years so long as the stress factors that caused it in the first place are still there.

Anagen Effluvium.

This kind of hair thinning occurs when the hair follicles endure something that prevents the normal growth activity. A common example of this is chemotherapy, which can result in 90 percent of the hair to fall out.

Other Causes of Female Baldness.

The most widespread reason that women lose hair is due to change in the function of the thyroid brought on by menopause. Other considerations that can cause hair thinning are variations in the levels of hormones, stress, certain medications, and heredity issues.

Beware: You Could Be Chancing a Stroke if You Take Contraceptives like Yasmin

Birth control pills are familiar types of contraceptives these days, and some of the newer makes which are now available, like Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella, have gained publicity in no time. People claim that these new pills can tackle complaints as varied as pre-menstrual syndrome (commonly known as PMS), acne or PDD i.e. premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Although their side effects, some of which might be most important, have not experienced an equivalent level of attention.

Now women have indeed been taking oral contraceptives for a long time, and there haven’t been any serious side effects. Even so, these birth control pills work differently. Yasmin contains drospirenone, in addition to the familiar female hormones. Its manufacturers initially hoped that this wouldeffectively treat acne occurrences too.

Those specializing in litigation focused on Yasmin have recommended adamantly that the public must be made aware of these types of side effects. yasmin birth control side effects could include problems like blood clots and pulmonary embolism, cardiac arrythmias and the possibility that those who use it could eventually face premature death.

Problems like these are made worse by taking drospirenone-based medicines like Yasmin. Using Yasmin will increase your potassium. Such an occurrence alone is worrying enough. However, it might also lead to additional difficulties if you have been prescribed pills like NSAIDS, for example — e.g. Motrin or ACE inhibitors frequently prescribed for other ailments. When potassium levels rise too high, the chance of side effects increases. Despite all of this, the drug has not been withdrawn from shelves either by the makers or the Federal Drugs Agency and they have not publicized any warnings to the general public about using the medicine.

Treatment isn’t really available, even so you are strongly encouraged to take legal advice. You could possibly consult with your doctor about anticoagulant medicine to prevent clots forming in your major arteries. Or you could ask about having a filter inserted into your major heart vein. However, apart from these efforts, people who have taken medicines containing drospirenone will simply have to monitor their conditions for the rest of their lives. Any Yasmin legal expert can give excellent advice to people who may have used drospirenone-based medicines and have subsequently experienced side effects. By contacting legal experts, people can examine their choices and might decide to take their case to court. Any compensation secured, as a result of the skills of an expert lawyer, can help them to defray significant medical costs, or the cost of lost working days resulting from all those treatments and doctors appointments. It could additionally pay for any pills or operations required. All these things can alleviate the constant stress that Yasmin has subjected them to.

Got Air? Then Get Your Oxygen!

You should know that deep breathing will help rid your body of toxins. I’m talking about a breath technique that involves nothing more than filling the lungs with nutritious air. The elementary act of oxygenating our body will naturally aid the body’s natural detox process?

Breathing air is something we do every day all day long. Regrettably our air may be dirty in some places, so be remindful of this fact. You don’t want to do a breath exercise standing on the sidewalk of a busy street looking for the bus. Ideally you should do your breathing technique at home, inside or outside if it happens to be in a place where the air is fresh and clean.

Standing in a long, slow, soothing breath, filling up the lungs and belly until you think it might burst. Hold the air as long as you can (never, ever force it), then slowly exhale the air out through your mouth. Do 5 to 10 inhalations and exhalations just like this.

As an alternative, you can change this exercise by lifting the arms straigt up above your head during the inhale, then softly lowering the arms as you exhale.

Oxygenizing the body drives oxygen into your blood stream, which delivers it into the cells and tissues of your body to nutrify and cleanse them of toxic material. Augmented oxygen in the body induces the blood flow as well as the movement of lymph fluid throughout the lymphatic system. Both the blood and lymph are incredibly central to our body’s purification process.

Here’s a very informative site about how to detox your body.

Learn How to Correct Your Teeth Properly

Lost teeth not only interfere with your ability to eat properly, they will also modify the shape of your face by losing the support necessary for your cheeks and lips. Missing teeth also cause remaining teeth to move around and become susceptible to more wear and tear. With today’s dental improvements, and well trained doctors, nobody needs to go through life with neglected and painful teeth. In the past, lost teeth were replaced with stationary bridges, or removable dentures. However, Plano implant dentistry allows dentists to apply newly developed products that provide a more efficient and natural looking substitute for even many lost teeth. These implants are prepared from a specialized titanium that is anchored in the jawbone, making these alternate teeth stronger, and more natural to see and use. These implants can even be used to replace all of a person’s teeth, and trade in the old removable dentures forever. Operations such as these typically call for the efforts of more than one person, primarily an implant surgeon, and a restorative dentist. Both need to have adequate credentials and experience to complete such a surgery, and be able to treat it with the respect it deserves. They will need to study the jaw bone; the number of implants, and precisely what type of implants and crowns are called for. X-rays and models will be taken initially, to help form a plan that is best suited to the patient’s goals. There is no average pallet here; it is all custom-made work to be done only by professionals. Many of these dentists will also perform a dental CT scan that will help them visualize the 3-dimentional version of your mouth. By organizing so completely, the dentist will be more comfortable in performing the challenging work that is involved. New software such as ‘Noble Guide’ will help place the new implants with precise precision. As challenging as it may seem, these surgeries are typically performed in the dental office, after the patient has taken some form of sedation to help them more relaxed. Oral sedatives, nitrous oxide, or even intravenous medicines are all accessible to assist the physician in performing his project with as little discomfort to the patient as possible. It is not uncommon for doctors to perform numerous implants during the same visit, and post operative treatment is typically no more than a few days of medicine. To help provide a more natural look and feel, temporary bridges can be used until the new implants have mended. Problems are not common, but will still need to be explained by your Frisco TX dentist before any treatment begins. As with all teeth, proper oral care is the best thing to make them last, so contact your dentist today and find out how to get started on the road back to good dental health.

Workers Choose Money over Long Term Health
Monday June 07th 2010, 3:44 am

A study has shown that workers on sickness leave in the UK preferred to return to work early even before they were completely fit due to financial worries. Close to 80% of them stated in a survey that if they fell ill, they would not wait till they had fully recovered and would go back to work as soon as possible even if it hurt their long term health and well being. Merely one-fifth of the workers put health before money.

The report, titled ‘early intervention prevention’ was prepared by Aviva UK Health. Almost half the workers in the sample claimed that they would come back to work if they thought that their family would fail to manage if income was affected. One-tenth of them were also scared of losing their jobs if they took a long sick leave.

According to Kevin Murdoch, Senior Proposition Development Manager at Aviva UK Health, long-term sickness itself is quite burdensome for the individual as well as his family. The additional financial burden would make it difficult to cope, especially when the individual is worried about losing his job. He said that many workers were not well equipped to fight long-term illness especially if the sick worker in question was the sole earning member of the family.

80% of the employees believed that they would need at least half their salary to live a normal life. However, majority of the employers did not provide any kind of financial support during long-term illness.

How to Know if I Have Should Injury
Wednesday June 02nd 2010, 10:35 am

The shoulder is a very important joint in many sports such as racquet sports, swimming and ball sports. It is an extremely mobile joint and relies on good muscle control to maintain stability.

Certain strenuous activities such as ball throwing, serving in tennis matches and swimming, all of which are done repetitively, could possibly cause shoulder injuries especially if they are not done properly using appropriate biomechanics or techniques. Contact sports such as football could also cause damage to the shoulder as the shoulders can be dislocated given the collisions that the players experience in this sport. It is highly important that these kinds of injuries are treated early as the longer you wait to have them treated the more problematic rehabilitation happens.

The following are the common shoulder-related injuries:

Tendinitis

One of the most frequent causes of shoulder pain, tendinitis can occur due to overuse or repeated use of shoulder muscles with the arm at or above shoulder level. Tendinitis occurs as a result of overuse or poor biomechanics. Treatment will involve avoiding the aggravating activity, ice, and massage. If biomechanics are to blame, this must be corrected.

Impingement

Occurs commonly in tennis players, swimmers (Swimmers Shoulder), weight lifters, or any athlete who does repetitive, stressful movement of the shoulder joint. Impingement occurs when there is a trapping of the tendons of the rotator cuff between the humerus and the end of the collar bone.

The problem can be further complicated by irregular bony outgrowths which are often present in older people.

When the arm is moved upwards and rotated inwards (e.g. freestyle swimming) the soft tissues are compressed. Repeated movement and compression leads to inflammation and swelling, which further increases the impingement.

This condition can be prevented by a proper warm-up and stretches, appropriate strength training, and decreasing repetitive shoulder movements. Treatment of impingement is similar to that of tendonitis, with a greater emphasis on correction of biomechanical problems.

The causes of Shoulder Pain are numerous, and injuries need to be accurately diagnosed before the appropriate treatment can be implemented. In addition to this, any technical or biomechanical problems should be fully assessed by your therapist in consultation with your coach.

Common treatment for shoulder injuries, such as rotator cuff problems, is Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN).

TDN involves the use of a fine filament needle (acupuncture needle) to deactivate tight and tender trigger points within a muscle. Deactivating the trigger point improves muscle function and aids recovery.

London Underground’s Workplace Violence Unit Condemns Yet Another Attack on Tube Worker
Monday May 24th 2010, 4:03 am
Filed under: Law, University of Health, Your Business

There have been many recent incidents of workers of London Underground having been attacked by drunken travellers.

Recently, Derek Acton, a 37-years old unemployed man, tried travelling in a drunken condition in the tube at Goodge Street station without a ticket. A tube worker stopped him while he forced his way in to a lift. The worker informed him that he cannot travel without a valid ticket but Acton refused to buy a ticket.

The matter was referred to the supervisor but when the station supervisor told Acton to go buy tickets, it merely led to Acton getting more abusive. Seeing that the matter is going out of control, the station supervisor was going to call the British Transport Police when Acton kicked him in the thigh. The police was called immediately and Acton hit a police officer when he was trying to arrest him.

When the case was brought before the City of Westminster Magistrates‘ Court, Acton pleaded guilty to the charges after which the court awarded him 12 weeks imprisonment for each offence.

However, the punishment has been suspended for a year during which he has to be supervised and has to attend non-residential alcohol treatment. He has also been asked to pay compensation of £100 each to the station supervisor and the police officer.

Aidan Harris, London Underground’s Workplace Violence Unit Manager, who said that Acton should have had a valid ticket, condemned the act. The worker was right in stopping him and Acton’s actions were neither tolerable nor justified.
