The Ultimate Strategy for Decorating a Child’s Room!
Thursday August 28th 2008, 12:03 am

When it comes to decorating a child’s room, your approach should be different from decorating an adult bedroom. That’s because a child’s bedroom should reflect his or her personality and not yours.

For kids, their bedroom is where they play games, read, listen to music, wrestle, display or hide prized possessions, day-dream, or just go to be alone sometimes. So try these eight strategies to help create a space that will make you both happy:

1. Talk to your child. Find out what activities and fantasies he or she enjoys; what their favorite color is; and what’s unique about their personality that a theme could be built around. Then work their interests into a design that will make them feel comfortable, happy, and safe.

2. Allow your child to help. Let them have a say about colors, fabrics, and how they want to display their collectibles. The design should be flexible enough to accommodate their changing tastes, needs, and interests.

3. Make the room multi-functional. Since children use their room for many activities besides sleeping, it should have several different zones.

These could include a play area; a reading area; a space to play with friends that’s equipped with a radio, CD player, and a TV/VCR; a display area with a wall or corkboard for favorite photos and artwork; and finally, a place for shelving to display collectibles, trophies, and other personal items.

4. Make storage a priority. Containing clutter will be one of your greatest challenges. Try shelving, large decorative wicker baskets, plastic see-through containers, and closets that contain plenty of shelving and racks.

5. Keep window treatments simple. Avoid long draperies. Shades, blinds, and shorter curtains are safer choices. The fabric should be versatile, and patterns should be repeated in other items in the room, such as in pillows, quilts, lampshades, bed ruffles, etc.

6. Choose the right lighting. A child’s room should include both task lighting for homework and reading, and soothing light for quieter times. A nightlight is also important if your child is not comfortable in the dark, and for safety reasons, so they can find their way to the bathroom at night.

7. Use wallpaper or paint to add color and texture. You can apply whimsical borders along the top edges of the walls, and clouds or stars on the ceiling.

It might be wise to make sure the walls of childrens rooms are washable, so if you are using paint, choose a semi-gloss or gloss finish. Kids love bright colors, but you should limit any strong color to only one wall. For example, paint one wall fire-engine red, and the others a soft peach or pink.

8. Allow your child to select the design theme. The choices are endless. Here are just a few: firehouse fun room, starry night, angels, rainbows, unicorns, baseball, a bedroom for a princess, underwater scenery, outer space, race cars, airplanes, trains, jungle motifs, wizards and dragons, and dinosaurs. You can visit our new Web site for a lot more ideas!

Decorating with your child offers a great opportunity to display your playful side, while doing some memorable family bonding. So have fun with it and remember that even if your child’s choice in themes seems bizarre, there’s probably a way to work out a compromise.

How to Get Even with Almost Anybody
Wednesday August 27th 2008, 2:08 pm

Do you know that there are web sites that tell you how to get even? Say the neighbor kid puts sugar into your gas tank and it cost you a zillion dollars to get the car repaired, how do you get even with the little snipe?

You don’t!

Getting even is not the thing to do. You talk to the kid’s parents, hand them the bill, and get out of there before they kill the little sniper.

Say someone says your daughter can’t sing.

Well, that is just an opinion, isn’t it?

I’ll tell you what Harry Truman did when someone said his daughter, Margaret, couldn’t sing.

He got as mad as a summer hornet with a nest full of baby hornets.

They didn’t call him “Give `em hell, Harry!” for nothing.

The following is extracted from http://www.trumanlibrary.org/trivia/letter.htm.

Here is what Washington Post Music Critic Paul Hume’s said in his December 6, 1950, review of Margaret Truman’s singing performance at Constitution Hall:

“Miss Truman is a unique American phenomenon with a pleasant voice of little size and fair quality … (she) cannot sing very well … is flat a good deal of the timemore last night than at any time we have heard her in past years … has not improved in the years we have heard her … (and) still cannot sing with anything approaching professional finish.”

Here is what Truman said in his letter to Hume:

“I’ve just read your lousy review of Margaret’s concert. I’ve come to the conclusion that you are an “eight ulcer man on four ulcer pay.”

“It seems to me that you are a frustrated old man who wishes he could have been successful. When you write such poppy-cock as was in the back section of the paper you work for it shows conclusively that you’re off the beam and at least four of your ulcers are at work.

“Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you’ll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below!

“Pegler, a gutter snipe, is a gentleman alongside you. I hope you’ll accept that statement as a worse insult than a reflection on your ancestry.”

Now what good did that do?

This letter is now history and shows a lack of constraint by the President of the United States. It also shows that he had little finesse in writing nasty letters.

He should have just gone over to the newspaper and given the critic a punch in the nose.

That would have made a great picture for the Truman Library.

Truman, Margaret Truman, President, critic, Washington Post, singing, Paul Hume

Culinary Employment Prospects
Friday August 22nd 2008, 5:26 am

Preface: Preface: Want to join the food industry? Why not know your employment prospects before you finalize your decision to study in culinary schools.

Where do you want to go? The world of Culinary Arts is one of the fastest growing fields in the United States and beyond. Where you go is up to you and how hard you are prepared to work. The same applies to how much you earn. If you decide to stay in the local area you are likely to earn between $8-$14. On the other hand, a line cook in San Francisco earns $10 to $22 per hour. A chef in fine dining restaurant or hotel can earn in excess of $100,000 per year. (Please understand it takes many years of hard work and dedication to reach this kind of salary.)

You may choose to work in any of the following types of establishments:

Nursing homes, hospitals, hotels, catering companies, casinos, cruise ships, trains, country clubs, private clubs, restaurants, research and development labs, resorts (ranging from a summer resort to one of the Disney properties), and wineries to name but a few. You may decide to travel and look for opportunities abroad. Whatever you decide to do, the education you will receive in Culinary Schools will help take you to the future of your choice.

The employment prospects for graduates of this program are positive. Future employment growth is above average and it is expected that new graduates will experience little difficulty finding work in the food and beverage industry. These are considered to be active recruitment occupations.

The restaurant industry employs 11 million people, making it the nation’s largest employer outside of the government. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the restaurant industry’s growth will be 30 per cent over the next two years. Industry professionals and owners indicate that the biggest challenge facing the industry is finding educated, competent, and well-trained management personnel to handle this growth.

In the next decade, the travel and food industry will be a leader in creating new jobs, in generating more revenue, in paying out more salaries and wages, and in offering great professional opportunities.

What are your interests? Owning your own restaurant? Chef? Food Buyer? Restaurant Manager? No matter what your interests are, a career in the food industry offers challenges and variety.

Many different segments of jobs exist in the food service industry. Excellent opportunities exist for individuals at all job levels in department store food service; airline in-flight food service, school, college, and university food service; hospitals and nursing homes; city and country clubs; business and industry; parks and recreation; and the military services which employ civilians to manage clubs and other food and lodging facilities. Food Service is the single largest segment in the industry.

Because the food industry serves the needs of the public, the majority of people working in this industry are in constant contact with customers. Its a people-oriented profession. Individuals preparing for careers in the Food Industry must understand that their responsibilities are likely to include daily interaction with customers. Social skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others are important assets for anyone planning such a career. An interest in meeting guests’ needs and solving their problems is a primarily requisite for success in this field along with reliability, dedication, and willingness to work hard.

Career opportunities are bright for the food industry. Since this is one of the fastest growing industries, trained and knowledgeable managers are in demand. For the person who is dedicated, outgoing, and willing to work odd hours, promotions come easily. We invite you to share the bright picture of the future of Food Service as it continues to grow, expand, and create tremendous new opportunities throughout the nation. There has never been a better time than now for people to enter the Food Service Industry.

Save Money on Taxes - Let Uncle Sam Pay for Your Fun!

“Deducting Meals and Entertainment”

O.K. You’ve been working really hard on these lessons. Now its time for some fun. Are you with me? Imagine if you could spend time with friends, eating, drinking and seeing shows and your company could foot the bill? Wouldn’t that be GREAT! Fasten your seat belt, we’re going on a (tax-deductible) journey…

Tax Secrets of the Rich found here

Our first stop is meals. There are several great ways to deduct your meals. The first is to turn your social outings into business meetings. No Fun, you say. Watch this, I say. Many of my lunches are already spent with colleagues and associates. That’s the way it is when you’re in business for yourself. You start spending more and more time with business partners and associates.
Asset Protection Techniques

Well, if I have lunch or dinner with a friend, that’s NOT tax deductible. But, if I discuss business with that same person, suddenly it becomes a deductible expense. And what does it take to officially discuss business? The IRS says that that the following conversation will suffice:

Your Associate: “How’s Business?”

Your Reply: “Great, but I could always use more business” (with the inherent request for referrals) That’s it. You’ve just turned a social gathering into a legitimate business meeting and the meal becomes 50% deductible. Don’t forget to document it properly.

What about having a meal with your spouse or “significant other.” We’ll the IRS is pretty darn smart, so they aren’t about to let use write off all our romantic dates. Yet they realize that when two couples go out for a meal, that’s a great time to discuss business in a relaxed setting. So the rule is that if you and your spouse enjoy a meal with another couple and you have that same business discussion outlined above, the meal is (50%) deductible. You want more? No problem.
Tax Strategies

How about dinner and a show. Or what about a full day on the golf course? The rule is that if you have a business meeting that is followed by entertainment, or entertainment that is followed by a business meeting, that’s a deductible expense. The IRS wants to see that you have a table or some other flat surface available to you during the meeting, so that you can sign documents, etc. Same thing goes for skiing, the movies or even a day at the beach. How about a ball game or even the Super Bowl? Just precede or follow it with a business meeting and document what you discussed.

One more, you say. Fine here it is. Imagine that you work for a large insurance company or law firm. You’re involved in a big case and you’re up against a touch deadline. Your boss comes in toward the end of the day and says, “I need you to work though dinner tonight- we’ve got to come in under that deadline. Don’t go home for dinner, just order in, on the firm”. Its called “supper money” In essence, your boss has allowed the company you work for to buy your dinner.

Your own company can do the same for you. Just don’t forget to document your expenses properly.

Sincerely,
Drew Miles, The Tax Saving Attorney

Making Money On Forgotten Websites
Wednesday August 20th 2008, 4:55 am

A “forgotten” website is a site you may have created a few years ago that seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, like many big ideas for the web, only a few realize their potential. The webmasters for these websites probably have tried banner ads, pay-per-click, and affiliate marketing and found that they could only make a few dollars per month. These money-losing websites often become forgotten, while the website owner begins work on another great idea. There are thousands of webmasters not making money on forgotten websites that actually offer the potential for substantial monthly income.

Selling text link advertising offers hope for many webmasters to make $200 plus per month by selling a few text links on their forgotten websites. How much a link is worth on a website depends on the metrics of the site. The more search engine backlinks, the higher the PR throughout the website, the more indexed pages, and the more great content a site has, the more your website can make selling text links. It is not uncommon for a strong, authority website to make more than $3,000 a month on text link sales alone.

If you want to monetize your site by selling text links, there are three ways to find buyers:

1.) Sell your links through a text link auction site like LinkAdage Auctions [ http://www.linkadage.com ]. Selling links yourself through an auction site will allow you to keep nearly all of your profits. The negative is that you need to post auctions, set your prices, post the links, and bill the winning bidders.

2.)Use a text link brokerage company. Text link brokers normally will give you a 50/50 split on what they charge for your links. While this seems like a lot, if you want to be hands-off and let someone else do 90% of the work, using a text link brokerage is the best way to go. With a brokerage, other than the negative of splitting half of your Link Ad revenue, you also have less control over the type of links that get included on your site.

3.)Include an “Advertise Rate” page on your website. Simply list the prices you want for a text link on your various pages. The best part of this method is that you will be able to keep all of your profits. The negative is that unless your site gets a lot of traffic, your link sales will be slow.

Mainly, don’t let your forgotten websites gather dust just because you have never made money on them. Even if what you can make is just a few hundred dollars per month selling links on a website, that will at least cover the site’s hosting fees and add a few thousand dollars to your net income at the end of the year.

John Lessnau, the CEO and founder of LinkAdage Text Link Advertising center, invites you to visit www.linkadage.com to learn how you can make extra money buying and selling text links on your websites.

Kickball And Bunting
Friday August 15th 2008, 5:17 am

Every damn gym class circa 6th grade played kickball at some point. And every damn gym class had the kid who refused to give the ball a real kick and instead half stepped up to the ball and “bunted.” The bunt was really a tap with the side of the foot and the ball would putter away from home plate by generally less than five feet. Since most kickball games didn’t have catchers, or had inept ones at that, the “bunt” was a pretty solid strategy for one who wished to get an “automatic” hit.

However, most circles recognize the bunter as an idiot who thinks he’s really fast and doesn’t care about self denigration in front of future hottie girls by looking like a wimp ass and refusing to really kick the ball. The bunter generally becomes a failure in life. The bunter works at Sunoco during high school and afterwards becomes the mini-mart manager and may even work a night shift as a security guard. The bunter has no morals and no ambitions. The bunter is Satan.

Improve Your Golf Game
Monday August 11th 2008, 12:20 am

The game of golf is an amazing game. There is no other game that I have had the opportunity to try that takes such discipline and dexterity. The fact that the game of golf is difficult to get good at is the main reason there are so many great golf training aids on the market to choose from. I’ve had the opportunity to test out a number of these golf training aids and I found that most of them do not do what they say they should. There are however, a few products that I have had the opportunity to try that work exceptionally well and oftentimes better than they claim to be. One of the golf training aids that I love a lot is golf training dust.

For those of you that are not familiar with golf training dust, it is a spray can that is easily applied to the face of the golf club to allow you to see where the golf clubs struck the golf ball. Golf dust is very similar in concept to impact tape which many of you may be familiar with. What makes golf training dust better than impact tape is that it is a lot easier to work with clean up after. As I said the training dust just sprays from an aerosol can and can’t be wiped off with a clean cloth. Golf training dust is a very reasonably priced product, costing less than $20, and will work well for you over hundreds of strokes.

The next golf training aid that I find does everything that it says it should is golf training impact bags. Golf training impact bags are essentially punching bags for your golf club. These impact bags are clubs safe and will not damage the club head or the shaft of your golf club. The impact bags are also very durable allowing thousands and thousands of strokes practice without damage. These golf training impact bags allow you to learn the correct placement of your arms and back so that you are able to hit the golf ball the right way. You can set the bag up in any area from home to work. I have gotten a lot of great training done at work and you can to. The golf training impact bag makes sure that the club head is facing the right way when it impacts with the golf ball. The bag combined with the golf dust is a deadly combination on the golf course.

Like I said, golf is a difficult sport to get better at and all of use could use the helping hand of a golf training aid. I just laid out the two best ones in my opinion but I have tried many other golf training aids that I did not like. You may very well like the others and gain dramatically form them so check everything out. Take this as just one opinion of a fellow golf lover. Get out and try new things, you never know what you will find.

Get the best Golf Training Aid here. Try out Golf Dust Training or even Golf Training Impact Bags.

Choosing Home Tanning Beds - Tips And Advice
Saturday August 09th 2008, 2:58 pm

In order to purchase home tanning beds, you’ll need some basic information about them. The information that you need is not just about what to look for in a purchase, but really, it is about finding the best products on the market for you. There is a large difference from one bed to another out there and knowing this difference can help you to invest your money wisely instead of wasting it. With the use of the internet, you really can find an excellent option for all of your home tanning beds needs.

First, there are a few differences in these as opposed to commercial products. In commercial products, they are often purchased with fewer frills so to speak. They can also be more durable. Although you are looking for a residential model, you may be able to save some money if you don’t mind the commercial products. Often, these come with a better warranty and can even be a better choice in the long run in quality standards since they are made to withstand a little more abuse. But, if you go this route, you need to make sure that the products are safe for your home and that you have the correct power supply for them.

Here are a few things you’ll need to look for when you choose a home tanning booth.

Look at brands, but not just brands. There are some amazing ones out there including Wolff. But, just because it has that label on it doesn’t mean that it is the right choice for your needs. You should take some time to insure that it is the best in features, warranty and quality before you choose it for its name. Or you could be spending a lot more on a brand name tag than on the actual product.

Ouch, That’s Hot! You need to insure that the product you purchase is right for you. That means it needs to provide a safe tan. It should provide for both UVA and UVB radiation protection. It should be safe to use and have the necessary timers to keep you safe. You should take a few minutes to insure that the product has an easy maintenance plan as well so that you actually do use it.

Features…Don’t You Want Them All? Everyone thinks that the more features the better a product is. But, if you strip down those features, what are you left with? While you can and should check out those that help to make your experience better, realize that features tack on dollars too.

Lastly, do we need to tell you the benefits of shopping around for your booth purchase? You can often find excellent sales and even a discount or two when you shop the web. You can save some money when you purchase from the used models out there too.

It all comes down to getting a great price and a great booth. You can have all of this when you spend a few minutes browsing the selection that is available throughout the web.
