How Soon Before We See Thin And Weightless Gaming Notebooks
Friday June 27th 2008, 8:01 pm

Laptop computer shipments are approximately estimated to be in the region of 130million units this year, which is a lot! But be warned if you want the most up to date tech than you need to cultivate some patience as there could be part shortages. Laptop computers have just been a phenomenal market to follow. There has been no drop in sales. The technology is progressing in all directions at once too.

I’ve witnessed a lot of gaming notebooks being launched lately. Adequate gaming notebooks can be purchased at a low price for mediocore gaming requirements. Gaming notebooks are no longer ridiculed by serious gamers because they are actually reasonably good. I think what’s most impressive is how slim the chassis’s are and how cool the systems run. Gaming performance between notebooks and desktops should forever be partial to desktops though, simply because desktops are always going to be larger and more faster. Could gaming notebooks ever turn razor thin? I feel this is a segment to observe.

A lager number of small system builders supply custom built laptops to niche sectors. Normally branded parts go into these laptops. It just provides the end user substantial choice at the end of the day. Let me tell it how it is. You possibly aren’t like everyone else and hence normal laptops won’t suffice. Power users require custom notebooks because of this. You can hunt down of manufacturers who sell straight to the buyer so there is a lot of choice as well. Because of this people will give up on the big brand name.

Cool is a thought that comes to mind when thinking of the next wave of portable computers. Laptops essentially for accessing the internet etc are being released in the market one after the other. Obviously this will be something massive in developing markets. I really feel that we’re bound to see feather weigth 15″ notebooks in the near future as well. I’m certain a few manufacturers are proactively working on such plans. I’m confident we will see ultra light gaming notebooks in the near future. Though laptop technology follows roadmaps there is forever going to be a product that transforms all that.

I would recommend these if you’re after the best gaming laptops.

Branding: What Not to Do
Thursday June 26th 2008, 10:53 pm

Here’s a little story about what not to do as you carve out a name for yourself in the world of internet business.

Don’t use a miscellaneous email account as your primary web contact address.

Some silly copywriter did this when she thought she was going to start working “freelance corporate” for staffing agencies.

This copywriter chose the name “seniorcopywriter” for her contact email because, in the corporate world, copywriters come in three sizes: Junior, Regular (actually referred to as just “Copywriter”), and Senior. (It’s sort of like the sizes of Starbucks coffee cups, but not.)

Since she had left her last corporate job wielding the lofty title of Senior Copywriter, I guess she thought that would be a fairly direct way of advertising her capabilities.

What she did not realize was that she was about to embark on a wild internet mega-marketing adventure, and that corporate had seen the last of her and her copywriting seniority.

So, now when people go to her website, they see the email contact address as “Seniorcopywriter” and probably wonder what kind of self-titling weirdo she is.

And when they come across her email address in some unexpected place, they make no connection between it and her website, which is called Wordfeeder.com.

If you haven’t caught my drift yet, I’m using this story to illustrate the point that highly effective branding is planned and purposeful. All of the elements of your business should “match.” Your website, company name, logo, tagline, email address, and basically everything you create thereafter, should be aimed directly at your target audience. Everthing should coordinate perfectly– like Jackie O’s wardrobe.

Someday, this copywriter who shall remain nameless, will get around to changing her email address to something more appropriate. But since it’s seemed to bring her good luck, for now she superstitiously keeps it as is.

Finding Proactive Solutions: A Key to Demonstrating Your Management Fitness
Thursday June 26th 2008, 9:18 pm

In my book Talking Points: 25 Tips for Clear, Credible Communication, Tip #17 states: “Managers and professionals in positions of responsibility got there by finding solutions to problems. They didn’t rely on someone else to come up with the remedy. They worked to find solutions proactively.” Those of us in positions of responsibility can demonstrate our management fitness by looking for and adding a proactive step whenever we encounter potential problems. Adding that proactive step demonstrates our ability to take responsibility for the outcome of situations. Nothing speaks “management” more than this.

Finding creative solutions to unusual and routine situations
helps develop your management skills.

In addition to taking that proactive step ourselves, part of our responsibility as managers is teaching our staff how to do this for themselves. Most of us in our careers have worked for a manager who tended to monitor every detail of our work. The result is we felt no empowerment to seek solutions on our own and to find methods of handling problems without that person’s involvement. The problem this sort of micro-monitoring causes is lack of motivation on the part of the employee to seek out alternative, workable solutions.

Usually a micro-monitoring manager has an idea in mind about the best process or best solution when dealing with a problem. This “best process” generally comes from that manager’s experience of having had that particular solution work the last time on a similar problem; hence, the attitude is born that this one solution will work on every similar problem. This is where the rut begins. When managers rely on solutions that worked in the past for current situations, they are no longer open to new ideas. As a result, they tend to direct their staff to use those same solutions on every problem in the future. The staff, then, begins to lose creativity when they encounter problems.

This method of management causes problems. It doesn’t encourage creative problem solving among employees, nor does it encourage employees to try new ways of doing things. Instead, employees who have worked under this sort of manager previously will look to their next manager to “solve” their problems for them. And if these employees aspire to positions in management while relying on their managers to solve their problems, they will find their aspirations thwarted.

The staff members who are promoted above their peers to positions in management get there because they demonstrate their management fitness in finding solutions to problems and finding creative solutions to unusual and routine situations. When in management, these new managers run the risk of solving their staff’s problems because they enjoy problem-solving so much. But these managers are going to have to remember how they got there and encourage their own team members to be creative in finding solutions to their own problems and not solve them for their team.

One of the best ways to encourage staff members to find their own proactive solutions is to use a series of questions to help them realize you are empowering them to seek solutions. For instance, let’s say that your employee, Sam, comes to you with a situationperhaps a failure in a process. Sam presents the situation to you by saying the process failed and then he asks what you’d like him to do about it. Instead of telling Sam what to do, ask Sam what he thinks should be done. Sam may at first be hesitant to give you any ideas because he may be gun-shy from previous micro-monitoring managers. Be patient with Sam; build trust with him so he knows you are truly interested in his ideas and that you trust his ability to work things out.

You might try a process I call the “blue sky” thinking process. Consider posing a question to Sam this way: “If money and time were not an issue, what would you do to solve this dilemma?” In every wacky idea, a good idea is waiting to be developed. Through a series of questions and answers with Sam, you’ll discover that a good idea is just waiting to come out. And Sam’s confidence and creativity will be awakened. He’ll learn through this repeated process to start coming up with his own solutions. As his manager, you’ll set the appropriate accountability with him on implementing his solutions so that Sam doesn’t act without the proper authority to do so.

Following this process will not only increase Sam’s management fitness by learning to find proactive solutions, it will further demonstrate your own management fitness by growing your staff into creative problem solvers.

Wide Range Taser Crowd or Demostrator Displacement Unit

Wide Range Taser Crowd Control VS ELF or VLF to prevent out of hand protests which can lead to blood shed. This new technology might be deployed against an army or for crowd control? Taser Guns for crowd control? Many people at once:

http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996014

This is an interesting idea, yet we can also put people to sleep via ELF or VLF and/or make them mellow out and therefore no escalation of protestors which could lead to tear gas, rubber bullets, hand to hand contact via night sticks etc. I believe there are many uses for this wide range area taser unit, for instance immobilizing your enemy without killing him and therefore you do not have the rath of their offspring wanting revenge in the next period against your country or citizenry as enemies, allies and friends are a constant flowing issue throughout the history of mankind. For instance the enemy of you enemy is your friend today and your enemy tomorrow and so on.

http://home.earthlink.net/~alanyu76/part5d.htm

I realize that there is much controversy on this subject. And believe that perimeter controls of Nuclear Power Plants, Pipelines, etc. will have needs for the higher level power settings which would stun or incapacitate the intruder, but in the case of free demonstrations, freedom of speech, etc. I see issues on both sides. Plato discusses making examples of those who cause problems of leadership so that a small demostration does not grow in numbers and power and end up dividing the society and eventually bringing down the civilization. So there are issues on both sides as gang mentality can cause humans to do some really bizarre and hurful things they would never do one on one such as stoning others to death, hangings, beatings and riots.

There are many who are quite appalled at this stuff even to the point of conspiracy theories run wild and actually causing the very backlash that they claim exists.

http://educate-yourself.org/dc/dclatestonm…ys25may02.shtml

This technology when used must be used correctly and with people in mind in non-war efforts otherwise we might cause further problems in the culture. This technology is a very good tool for certain things and is of value, however could cause problems to the whole.

New Year’s Marketing Resolutions
Friday June 20th 2008, 11:09 pm

I hope you’re as excited for the upcoming year as I am. Time again for those New Year’s Resolutions.

Are you making them again this year? Or, are you like some I’ve talked to who say you’re going to skip making them so you don’t have to break them again.

So what’s it going to be this year - loose weight, get in shape, improve some of your relationships, take some more time off and actually take a vacation this year?

Don’t worry, I’m not going to lecture you about making your resolutions more realistic this year so you can actually stick to them. You already know that you need to create a plan to achieve them and then put it into action.

How about a Marketing Resolution?

I simply invite you to resolve to get into marketing shape this year. Become a stronger marketer for the sake of your business. And, you don’t have to count “carbs” or “grams of fat” to stick to this resolution. However, you will need a plan and commitment to put it into action.

“You don’t have to be some kind of marketing wizard or guru to get great marketing results. You do, however, need to be willing to put in regular and consistent effort.”

I say this to people all of the time because it’s true. You could even say that I’m living proof of this statement. I don’t have a degree in Marketing. But, I do have a system that I put regular and consistent time and effort in to maintaining and improving.

Caution: A Marketing Resolution Will Require Work

My family and I were watching television the other night when one of those commercials came on. You know what I’m talking about? It was one where a couple claims that each lost 30 to 40 pounds by taking this “magic” pill. They showed the before and after pictures where the couple was obviously flabby and out of shape in the before pictures. In the after pictures, the couple was not only much slimmer; they looked like they had been carved out of marble.

In a question of obvious surprise and disbelief, my son asked, “How did they get so ‘buff and cut’ just from taking a pill?” I told him to look for the fine print and sure enough the commercial proceeded to tell him that results were achieved through a combination of regular diet, exercise and taking the “magic pill” product. To which my son replied, “Couldn’t they have gotten those results just from the diet and exercise?”

But this article isn’t about the ridiculousness of the “magic pill” commercial. No, this article is for those of us who want to make some positive changes in our business. We’re doing some planning for how to make our next year our best year yet. We’re waiting for that gentle nudge to start getting into marketing shape. Well come on then. Let’s get started!

I’d invite you to create two or three goals that will make a difference to your business. And then, put them on a calendar on your wall. If you don’t complete them are you any worse off? But, if picking them and putting them on a calendar is enough to help you get some results then you’ve discovered a simple system to achieve positive change.

Here are a few suggestions for marketing resolutions that you can stick to and would help make a difference in the next year.

1. Commit to learn something about marketing every month. There are several ways you could put this on the calendar and actually hold to this resolution. Every month you could commit to read a book, attend a seminar, attend a workshop, enroll in a tele-class, or buy and listen to audio on some specific marketing topic.

You don’t necessarily have to try to learn everything about marketing all at once. But, you do owe it to yourself to continuously learn. Pick a different marketing topic for each month and then determine your preferred learning method.

2. Commit to write something about your area of expertise every month. Writing is probably the single most important marketing skill you can master. The good news here is that you get to write about what you already know. Then finding ways for you to share what you write will actually serve as a client attracting marketing tool for you.

Think of how much you’d be getting the word out about what you’re great at if you wrote and distributed something every month. Write a tip sheet to give to clients and referral sources. Start a newsletter or ezine to start sending to everyone in your network of contacts. Submit articles to the publications that your target market turns to for information.

3. Commit to testing your attention getting message every month. The first thing you say when someone asks, “What do you do,” should create some interest and get your listeners to ask for more information.

Put some networking events on your calendar for each month of the year. Stop worrying about trying to get a new client. Just go and test your attention getting message to see who asks you to tell them a bit more. Here’s a great follow-up when someone does ask for more information - offer to send them something that you’ve recently written on the topic (see #2 above).

Just like all those exercise resolutions you made in the past, even scheduling just a few hours a week or a month will begin to make a difference.

A Few More Tips To Make Your New Year’s Marketing Resolutions Stick

Once you make your resolutions (hopefully getting into marketing shape is one of them), write them down in big letters and put them up where you’ll see them every day. Tell at least three people who will help you stick with it.

Sometimes you just have to hear something over and over again until in it really sinks in. “You don’t have to be a marketing guru to get great marketing results, but you do need to be willing to put in regular and consistent effort.”

Just like an exercise program, if you write it out then you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Get a simple marketing calendar and commit to specific marketing activities every month.

Want a few exercises to get you started? Read the E-Myth Revisited. Write a one page tip sheet on the top three things your clients could do to improve their current situation immediately. Practice a new introduction that gets people to say, “Wow, I’d like to hear more.”

Don’t go it alone. If you’re serious about getting into marketing shape this year, consider the benefits of a marketing coach or joining some kind of accountability or mastermind group.

Forum Essentials: Dress Up Your Site For The Holidays
Thursday June 19th 2008, 3:01 pm
Filed under: Universe Of Social Webbing

If you manage a message board community, a key to your site’s success is the lively banter between members. Without conversation, your site will quickly die off. You can’t police your forum and respond to every post, but there are a few things you can do as an administrator to get things moving again.

Hold a contest. Yes, who doesn’t like to win something, anything? You don’t have to spend a lot of money and the prize can be as simple as a magazine subscription, free membership for one year to your site, or an electronic gift card for the lucky winner. Want to go big time? Find a merchant to sponsor a gift; in exchange for their donation give them free advertising on your site for an agreed period of time.

Update your icons. The same old, nondescript icons will certainly bring about the yawns. Spice things up by swapping out one set of icons for another. Holiday themed icons are a favorite.

Change your background or theme. Holiday themed backgrounds that promote a warm glow in the hearts of your members will retain your visitors like nothing else. Put away the stale, antiseptic backgrounds and put some holiday pizzazz into your forums.

Cyber Grab Bag. No, I haven’t tried this one…yet! However, I do know of sites where members play “Secret Santa” with other members. This can be in the form of a surprise email, an electronic gift, or a donation to the recipient’s favorite charity.

There are many other ways to get your site moving again. Use this festive time of the year to come up with a plan that is certain to spark interest in your site. If in doubt as to what to do next, ask your members…they’ll know!
